Having grown up competing on chess teams, swim teams and in Tae Kwon Do since preschool; as well as soccer, flag and tackle football, baseball, travel lacrosse and basketball, in Feb 2020, Trey chose to focus on basketball as it had become the sport he truly loved the most. He didn’t know that in less than thirty days, the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent global Quarantine and lockdowns would rob him from playing Grassroots basketball and any competitive basketball games for eighteen months.

However, he continued to train multiple times a day throughout the period. In Summer 2021, after being named MVP of the Annual WJG Classic in Goldsboro, NC, Trey was recruited to attend the upstart NC GBB Academy in Durham, NC by then coach Rasheed Wallace. Trey transferred into NC GBB Academy a few months later (November 2021) to play for their National Team. Not having ever played Grassroots basketball, he entered the competitive prep basketball scene a relative unknown. In less than a month, he quickly impacted the team on both ends of the ball and provided much needed shooting for the team.
